Edje Joy Nwankwo is the Founder and Executive Director of Heritage Konnect, an organization dedicated to fostering social cohesion and cultural connections among Africans in the diaspora.
Through initiatives such as the Annual African Summer Board Games Competition and Omugwo Postpartum Care, she creates engaging spaces that celebrate heritage, strengthen community bonds, and promote a sense of belonging.
Her passion for postpartum care is deeply rooted in her upbringing, inspired by her mother’s dedication to providing compassionate, traditional support to new mothers in their community. Recognizing a critical need for culturally sensitive postpartum care in Canada, particularly among African immigrant families, Edje established Heritage Konnect’s postpartum support services to ease the emotional and logistical challenges of early parenthood.
Edje holds a Master’s degree in Geography, Globalisation, and Development from the University of Liverpool, England, alongside Diplomas in Medical Office Administration and Business Management. A lifelong advocate for cultural inclusivity, she remains committed to empowering communities and advancing initiatives that support diversity and belonging.
